This year I have been trying some new stuff, particularly using wider warp settings, which allow for colour blending. But my first love remains working with blocks of single colour, finding ways to create pleasing figurative forms that celebrate the "weaverliness" of the medium. I continue to experiment; sometimes I get it "right". Always I am learning.
After years of fiddling around with lovely things like hand spinning and knitting, I discovered tapestry weaving in 2017, and was hooked - not only by its gloriously tactile and vibrant materials, but also by the delicious challenges it offers:
- generating fluidity, depth and subtlety in a medium so linear, binary and exacting;
- re-framing the challenges as prods towards creative thinking and experimentation; finding weaverly solutions;
- honouring the amazing richness and diversity of everyday life.
2023 is my second Open Studios. Last year I was blown away by the generous interest and positive response of our visitors to Art @ West Rock.We are looking forward to welcoming lots of people again this year. Hope to see you there.
