The images that you can see above are from my project called 'Are we there yet?' which focuses on the experiences of children who are refugees. This project will be exhibited in the Summer 2022 Warwick Open Studios event. See www.robertwilliamsart.co.uk for more information.
I use mosaic, collage and printmaking to explore linked personal, conceptual and contemporary themes, including: fatherhood, family, social justice, wellbeing and social change. For me, using diverse methods, mark making, materials and techniques allows me to create art in a way that illuminates the breadth of my concerns and interests.
My concerns are grounded in doing, researching and writing about health, care, poverty, wellbeing and public health over many years. I am inspired, on the one hand, by traditional practices, for example Graeco-Roman art, but Modernism, I believe, offers the creativity, dynamism and optimism necessary to understand and represent our contemporary experiences within Neo-liberal England.
My current ongoing project is called 'Changing fatherhood' which explores nurturing and caring by diverse communities of men. See www.robertwilliamsart.co.uk for some of this initial work.
