Born in Edinburgh, Deirdre trained in sculpture and printmaking at Liverpool and Winchester Schools of Art in the 1970's and now has a studio in Ilmington, Warwickshire. While working in a studio at Summerhall (www.summerhall.co.uk) in Edinburgh between 2012-2017 she produced some of her best-known bronze portraits for public and private commissions, which include a large bronze of Nelson Mandela in Glasgow’s City Chambers, and several pieces in the University of Edinburgh collection. Deirdre has recently embarked on a series of portraits of famous women, including Virginia Woolf, Toni Morrison and Hannah Arendt.
