In 2022 Chris has relocated her studio to central Rugby, where she is setting up The Alexandra Arts Company Ltd with her husband (printmaker Steve Davies). She is often involved in organising events with members of Rugby Artists and Makers network.
Chris loves to try new things, so it can be difficult to predict what she will be doing next. Visit 'the Alex' and find out!
Chris spins virtually anything, from sheep fleece she has prepared from scratch, to waste made from selvedge threads used to create fancy accent yarns. Thick, thin, smooth or textured she loves to use naturally coloured wool, but also dyes fleece, wool braids and yarn to achieve different effects, particularly in her weaving and knitting experiments. During lockdown she moved into machine knitting (particularly enjoying the knitweave techniques which allow use of handspun as 'weft').
Chris in her academic life was particularly interested in reuse and repurposing of digital online learning resources (in fact has a PhD in this area). It is therefore no surprise that she is also drawn to sustainability in her fibre experiments. Her 'kit' - from vast floor looms to vintage knitting machines - is often repaired/renovated and brought back into use from a sorry former state. (Most often with the long-suffering assistance of artist-husband Steve Davies).
