Much of my work is inspired by the geology, seascape and landscape of Cornwall and the work many of the artists who have similarly been drawn to the county. In fact it was one such artist who gave me the push I needed to pick up my paintbrushes and start my art journey anew. He knew I had been unable to take up my offered place at art school many years ago, without his encouragement and advice I wouldn’t have had the courage to take the first tentative steps.
I am attracted to both realism and abstract working mainly with acrylics for its more tactile qualities. But I love experimenting with different media – pencil, pen and ink, and watercolours often combining different techniques, mediums and natural materials in a piece of work - so you may find thread work, sea glass, driftwood, bits of old jewellery or Cornish beach sand incorporated in a piece.
I have recently started a Diploma art course in drawing and painting to help improve my skills, explore new media and broaden my understanding and knowledge. This I hope will feed through to new work.
