At school, Mary wasn’t a promising artist. In fact Art was the one subject her teachers didn’t want her to take at GCSE.
It’s wasn’t until her mid-30s that she started to explore visual arts. Starting with some cheap oil paints and absolutely no clue, Mary has gradually discovered other mediums and techniques through a process of play and learning from others.
Today she creates 2 distinct types of work, although they are both a form of abstraction. The first is acrylic mixed media abstracts on stretched canvas. These are explorations of colour and texture, open to interpretation by the viewer.
The second is a style of line painting using sumi ink. Here Mary considers her subject and how best to represent it with as few lines as possible. She favours the female form for this work.
