My training is in Fine Art.
I am a painter and more recently a printmaker. I've been enjoying etching for a little while and during lockdown I've developed my skills in lithography and lino printing too.
When painting I like to be experimental & I particularly enjoy the incidental. A painting my go through many stages before I am completely happy, so I generally prefer to work on many pieces at the same time. This means that my work doesn’t follow a linear path, from start to finish but creates the space for the unexpected maintaining a fluidity that I value.
My inspiration is the transience of time and I draw on nature to help express these ideas. Through the ebb & flow of the tide and the changing of the seasons, I aim to capture an imagined moment whilst reiterating time's cyclical nature. I like the dichotomy between things being the same but at the same time different. For instance, we will never live a year twice, but there will always be twelve months, four seasons, seven days in a week and twenty-four hours in a day. In my work and in the abstract, I often try to create the sense of looking ahead or in holding a moment.
As well as my explorations into ideas I like experimenting with art materials and their potential to express the abstract nature of a place. In not taking a particular place in its entirety but drawing from its essence the important elements, I hope to create a sense of place which is timeless.
