After a lifetime working in kitchens; making tableware feels natural to me. Woodwork came as part of lockdown; restoring old tools led to using those tools. A lathe bought to make spare parts was quickly upgraded as I loved the immediacy of the work, and the deep satisfaction of using the chisels.
I prefer to used reclaimed and foraged wood, and I only ever buy local native hardwoods. Friendships with local tree surgeons have kept me in good supply.
I use simple forms and natural, food safe finishes to showcase the beauty of the timber. Whilst the work is meant for display, they are safe to use at the table, though only for dry, light use. Say as a bread bowl or fruit platter.
I’m displaying with friends and colleagues, at Vitsoe, where we all work day to day.
